She followed in her mother's footsteps. She graduated with honors in high school and college and taught first and second grade in San Antonio 40 years.

She never owned or drove a car. She lived about five miles from downtown and felt she couldn't afford a cab. So she took a bus. I tried to tell her she had the money to pay for a cab, but she thought it was a waste of money. She walked to Mass every day.

She and her mom were so involved with kids, she decided the bulk of it would go to the children's hospital. She wanted to make sure it helped children.
