We have one of the lowest rates for abortion in general. People here live their values. The teens we're concerned about are the teens where communication is not good in the family.

I want to believe these men care about women. (But) I have to question it. Too often it's men telling me the assistance I can have to be healthy. To have my children be healthy.

The abortion clinics will tell you that 95 percent of young people who choose to have a procedure come with parents or supportive adults. We've got people talking in kitchens, probably in bedrooms and in living rooms all around the state.

That's what frustrates me. We pass laws based on moral issues and don't look at what happens in real life.

It's not that our teens are having sex any more than those in Sweden or Norway or any other country. It's just that we're not educating. We don't want to deal with ways to prevent pregnancy other than abstinence.
