"Jerry Manuel" (born December 23, 1953), nicknamed ""The Sage,"" is a former major league manager. He previously managed the Chicago White Sox from 1998 to 2003 and the New York Mets from the middle of 2008 to 2010 and played in the majors for parts of five seasons in the 1970s and early 1980s. He now works as an analyst for MLB Network.

Had he been down in the minors, well, you don't know. But when we brought him up last year, it was to get him ready for this year. And he played well. I think he's ready.

That's something we're going to try to keep out of these last four games.

That way, he can play without the pressure of trying to be the guy, trying to be the man. We feel that way he can develop there.

I see someone who doesn't' show any fear about getting up there in a big-game situation. And at third base, we feel he can play good defense at the major league level.
