I had to settle down and stay poised and stay mentally ready. I had a lot to learn last year.

I got a chance to get out there and run around with the first-team guys. We got physical and worked on what we've been putting in all spring.

I hope Merrill will come back and be alright, but since I'm in there now, I'll try to take advantage of that chance, try to work hard and keep that spot.

Those guys help me out a lot. We're all competitive, but we all help each other. Whether I'm starting or backing (Johnson) up, I'll still be giving the same effort.

I want the coaches to know they can depend on me, that I'm going to be a guy going full speed every play and that I'm capable of making big plays.
