Switching from one statewide (office) to another is definitely something new.

My sense is that what is riding on this election for Arnold is basically everything. [He] called the special election. He drafted the measures. He has outlined the agenda ... this is all about him.

In states that Kerry had to be competitive in, he was less competitive because gay marriage was on the ballot — starting with Ohio.

Maria has emerged as the new center of power because of the perception that Arnold moved way to the right and failed and that she is helping him lurch back to the middle.

This was about a bunch of garbage that nobody cared about. His problem was that he put all his prestige on the line for these measures that were arcane and in many cases poorly drafted.

And you can understand they're likely to say, 'Well, Governor, we're not going to go way out on a limb for you in this special election without some guarantee that you're going to be around for the next four years,'.

His problem right now is people think he is full of hot air.

Usually politicians can find some silver lining. There is no silver lining tonight for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold was completely repudiated by the people of California.

He was larger than life, not a Gray Davis or Pete Wilson, who were technicians. He said, 'I am Arnold. I can move mountains.' But then he didn't deliver?. He delivered midgets when he promised giants.
