It's not for the weak of heart. It's something that you have to be able to look past all of the problems and realize the potential of a piece of land.
Guys in this situation often do change their mind.
When a base closes in a community, it's never a good thing. You lose jobs and there's a big economic impact.
It's important for the community to get started early and figure out what it wants. Because the [armed] services are going to be pushing to get things done.
That's one of the few beaches on the west side of the lagoon.
Honestly, it didn't sink in until about 30 minutes before the ceremony kicked off. I did not want to accept the fact this unit and all the wonderful soldiers that we were fixing to be separated. It has been the most rewarding job in my 21 years in the Army.
