I think the mood is changing. We believe strongly in local control, but with that comes some responsibility.

It's important that we prepare students for the global marketplace.

We have to meet international standards. Our students are not prepared and we must do better. The question is: How do we get more rigor and relevance? We have to expect a child to be taught to compete.

The cross country thing, I think, is a real potential problem. I know a lot of high school athletes that go out for (track) just for conditioning for football the following season.
