The university does a great deal of communication with students about what is expected on game day. This is a collaborative effort with the athletic department. No one office has the responsibility for controlling student drinking.

Virtually every university in the country has an alcohol problem. I am concerned about the problems we have with alcohol, but they are less troublesome than some of the Eastern schools I'm familiar with. Students at UW are a lot more focused on their education, I've found, and they are more responsive to authority figures.

These students need to learn that actions have consequences. We also take time to talk with students one on one about how these decisions will affect them down the road.
