The first few years were tough. You try to get in wherever you can, and you work for drinks or nothing at all, just to be heard.

It's not like we're just showing up, playing our music, you either like us or you don't, we get paid and go home. We take these (audiences) in and make them part of what we're doing.

It took a while to build back the quality of sound, and we lost a few fans. They'd say, 'You guys aren't that good.' ... (Keeping the band going at that time) was probably the hardest thing I've ever done.
