Penny Hardaway
FameRank: 6

"Anfernee Deon "Penny" Hardaway" is a retired American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA), specializing as an unconventionally tall point guard. His most productive years came in his days as a member of the Orlando Magic as well as the early portion of his stint with the Phoenix Suns. Hardaway was often compared to Magic Johnson during his tenure because both had incredible size and quickness at the point guard position. Hardaway was an All-NBA player early in his career, but was plagued by constant injuries which gradually reduced his effectiveness. He played for the New York Knicks from 2004 to 2006 and last played for the Miami Heat, who released him December 12, 2007.

It's hard to see that because he wasn't ready to go.

It's like Ali -- no one wanted to see him get beat up.

You have to be really careful with this type of surgery. You really have to give the procedure a chance to work and for the knee to heal. If you don't, you're asking for trouble.

Things happened so bad when I left here, so I don't know where I stand with the (Magic) organization. I still get booed when I come here by the fans for some reason. It's a place where I'm going to retire, but with the team I can't answer that right now. I am going to be a free agent at the end of this year, but I don't know if they would even be interested.

His leadership is definitely going to be missed. It's just unfortunate that we're losing him.

We had too many guys go out at the same time and we just didn't have enough to keep it going.

I don't want to go out there and be crazy, just be a veteran that's played this game 12 years, ... I told myself, 'Whenever you're activated, don't try to be the savior, because it's going to take everybody.' It's not going to be just be me.

I feel great. I can't wait for the season to start.

We're happy to get 2005 behind us. Somebody has to take the blame, but all of us are in this together. It starts with management and coaches, staff and players.
