It's certainly fair to say that medicine is practiced differently around the world and we try to work as much as possible closely with the local hospitals and clinics. And in many places, we use the local health care facilities if we think they are adequate to use.

Members [of the foreign service] are basically a pretty hardy bunch -- and we only put them in posts that can support their medical needs in the first place.

They do that in the foreign service all the time, but not seriously as far as I know. At the odd cocktail party, perhaps.

They help with mental health issues like stress. As you know, we have a number of embassies that have been attacked and bombed, so post-traumatic stress relief with employees and their families is an important part of the work they do.
