The rain was a little bit late. There was a lot of it. The temperatures have been higher than normal. So we got a lot of extra mosquitoes, a lot of extra transmissions. It all made a nice combination and blew the top.

The high number of cases is very hard to explain.

The rising number of cases and deaths indicates that something may have happened to that system whereby some breeding places have gone unnoticed and therefore uncontrolled.

It is hard to understand because in the past, Singapore has had a very sophisticated dengue surveillance and prevention system.

We have a lot of young guys, and they have a tendency to stand and watch and not move around a lot. The Hilton Head attack did a better job of working the ball around and keeping our defense moving. If you can't work the ball around, your offense breaks down.

Singapore is unique and known worldwide for its dengue control measures. It shouldn't be having this outbreak, but the number of cases is really shooting up there.

It's a city. It has a well-organized health-care system and a preventive system, ... It should kick it when it has an outbreak. There's something missing when the cases go very high.

It just seemed to all come together this time.

I liked the way he didn't just talk Xs and Os. He talked a lot about preparation, organization and delegation -- things that, with me just becoming a head coach, I needed to hear.
