Eminent domain has been used historically very judiciously and mostly appropriately in North Carolina and other states. Our opposition is strictly based on our concern about the potential change in direction with eminent domain that the Supreme Court had opened that threatens private ownership of property.

While we're certainly optimistic about the pending legislation, this is something we could not wait any longer to address.

It's a philosophical decision consistent with our values. We think this is just not good public policy.

It's not even a fraction of a percent. The dollar amount is insignificant.

Clearly we want to lend to project and in areas where there is good community support.

We're not trying to use lending for social purposes. This is a long-term economic issue because private-property ownership has helped to make the U.S. economy what it is today.
