"Kathy Kelly" is an American peace activist, pacifist and author, one of the founding members of Voices in the Wilderness, and currently a co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence. As part of peace team work in several countries, she has traveled to Iraq twenty-six times, notably remaining in combat zones during the early days of both US-Iraq wars. Her recent travel has focused on Afghanistan and Gaza, along with domestic protests against U.S. drone policy. She has been arrested more than sixty times at home and abroad, and written of her experiences among targets of U.S. military bombardment and inmates of U.S. prisons. She lives in Chicago.

I don't want to imply there aren't enough people here. Of course there are a lot of people looking for jobs. But we need to hear from them so we can place them where they are needed.

What we are doing is nothing compared to the suffering of Iraqis. We hope that our government will wake up to the fact that thousands of innocent people are dying because of their political ambitions.

He does not want to go back there next year because he feels he would not be treated the same as before all this happened. Who am I to tell him, 'No. You have to go back.' I'm not the one that has to go there and face the teachers and the kids.
