The fear of not doing well in reading and mathematics is driving out some of the other needs we have. We have driven fear into a system that's dealing with children. People are so concerned about raising achievement, they've almost inadvertently forgotten about the entire development of the child.

There is no perfect or ideal size for a high school. Top-level student achievement can be seen in high schools of all sizes in the state.

We need to pay more attention to the courses students are taking and make sure they are taking the courses that will get them prepared for AP classes.

I know other communities would be very interested in how to put the funding together for something like this.

I think it helps focus students on being accountable for what they have to learn. It also focuses accountability back on teachers so that they are doing a good job teaching students what they need to know.

We already have classes without teachers.
