At times, with other doctors, we as a family were made to feel that we didn't love Karen enough or that we wanted her to die and that was very, very hard for us. But certainly everyone supported her. Her mom and dad took care of her every day, and this was hard on them only because it's impossible to watch your child die, not because they thought what Karen was doing was wrong.

He took time to explain the course of the disease and he supported Karen and assured her that he would honor her choice. He never once inferred that she was wrong for choosing to live her life the best way she knew how. He never said it had to be his way.
