Our instincts are when Josh Byrnes steps into the role formally, he has the potential to be not only a successful general manager but a great one.

The timing is no accident. We feel like we'll have our general manager of the future in place at that point.

We'll sit down with him and determine his thoughts about his future, and obviously we'll share ours with him.

We are not holding out great hope Mo will play again, but we stop short of announcing he is retiring. It may ultimately be that.

A terrific part of our organization's history, and presumably, a part of its future.

The lion's share of payroll adjusting has occurred at this point, ... and if anything, we'll maintain some payroll flexibility in order to help the team going forward and to put the most competitive product we can on the field.

I don't foresee any reason for daily updates on Luis Gonzalez. At this point, he's our left fielder and obviously a terrific part of our organization's history and, presumably, a part of its future.

We intend to remain flexible, too, to a point, ... If someone becomes available who we haven't had in the process at the earlier stages, we certainly have the flexibility to reach out and include them.

Extremely bright, with high character and high integrity.
