I came into this contract negotiation with a no-lose situation.

Come the trade deadline and I haven't renegotiated with Buffalo, absolutely I'll be thinking about it because in that situation I'll probably end up somewhere else.

At the same time, while I was hoping to get a term deal and didn't, there's are some positives with that, too. If I don't renegotiate with Buffalo during the season, then I'll hit the open market. At the end of the tunnel is unrestricted free agency, and that's something every player looks forward to. That could be a very exciting time.

If I sign the QO, I will be unrestricted after this season and more than likely will be picked up by another team. So I'd like to see if they want to keep me around [longer] before a QO is signed.

I'm just going to concentrate on playing hockey.

I've got a bruise right now the size of a large orange on my knee from a Jaromir Jagr shot.

My frame of mind is I'm a Buffalo Sabre, ... I'm here, and I'm more than happy and excited for camp to start. Now I can concentrate on my main goal of helping this team get into the playoffs.

I think if you talk to the majority of the players in the league, he's our guy. . . . We didn't do it quite properly, and when we do, he'll be the guy for sure.
