We had been giving erroneous numbers for research expenditures for many, many years. My position was, fix it all right now. Do it all at one time.

We knew this was coming.

It's important to note that our capacity is uneven across the university.

We've had dozens of phone calls from students and parents asking if we would take students, ... There's no way to predict how many students will enroll. We couldn't open every door and that was difficult, but we made a decision to make what resources we can available to these young people, which was easy.

Unless it runs up against one of those two things, it doesn't matter to me whether you're writing a children's book or consulting for a drug company.

I frankly suspect the number of students who will show up in January will be more than in the next few days.

It's been unevenly difficult for faculty. Some units have embraced it, and some think they've been micromanaged by it.

So many of these students are experiencing a tremendous amount of trauma, ... Many times when there's a disaster, communities come together to help one another. It's gratifying.
