"Jan Hendrik Ellis" was a South African rugby union player, who played Rugby union positions#6. Blindside flanker & 7. Openside flanker/flanker. He played 38 times for the South Africa national rugby union team/Springboks, which at that time was a record.

He played in his first Test for the Springboks on 31 July 1965 against New Zealand national rugby union team/New Zealand. He played his last test against the same team on 24 July 1976.

Ellis also played in the Presidents XV (1973)/Presidents XV on 31 March 1973 against Scotland national rugby union team/Scotland.

He died on 8 February 2013.
