He ran the way most back were taught to run - low, bent over. He wasn't very elusive, but he was very powerful. He'd get the 4, 5 yards then when people ganged up and hit him, a lot of them would slide off, couldn't get a good wrap on him and he'd get another 4 or 5 yards.

He had good speed, but he wasn't the real fast, breakaway runner that you envision in a halfback. Jerry was such a powerful runner that he'd run right over you. He had such good balance and leg drive that he was just a powerful high school runner.
