"George Edward "Eddie" Pope" is a retired American association football/soccer player who last played for Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer and spent eleven years as a defender for the United States men's national soccer team/United States national team. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Pope spent most of his career playing for D.C. United.

I don't think we quit. I don't think I quit. . . . I'm sure, from a coaching standpoint, it looked like we quit.

I know I didn't quit, ... I think in the second half there wasn't one aspect of the game I think we did correctly. I'm sure from the coaches' standpoint it looks like the team is quitting.

We're just trying to get better, ... That's our goal right now, is to continue to get better and to improve individually and as a group. We're definitely focused on that, and on finishing the season strong.

We will turn the corner soon and start getting some wins, and our hard work will start paying off.

To be on a team that does not win that much, you have to take away things from it and learn from the mistakes we make as a team and individuals, ... Sometimes people say it is a character building experience, and I really think it is.

I don't think there is anything else I am going to show him that he did not realize I could do, ... I think he knows me as a player. For as long as we have been together, he has known what I can do. If I get another chance to play on the national team, I consider it an honor.

It's a huge honor to receive this award and is obviously not possible without my teammates and coaches, ... Even though it's an individual honor, it never means more than the true goal of our team winning an MLS Cup.

The problems were all over the field. The team has to get through 11 people.

The most impressive thing about both of them is they have good heads on their shoulders. They listen, they ask questions, they don't talk back, they're really good kids. That's enabled them to be successful. It started with the young guys a few years ago, with Landon [Donovan] and Bobby Convey. They're not scared of anything.
