He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1932 to the 73rd United States Congress/Seventy-third Congress and for election in 1934 to the 74th United States Congress/Seventy-fourth Congress and in 1936 to the 75th United States Congress/Seventy-fifth Congress.

He resumed the practice of law.

Organized a mutual life insurance company in 1939.

He served as president of Goodwill Industries of Fort Wayne 1940-1943.

Co-publisher of an interdenominational newspaper from 1941 to 1946.

He again resumed the practice of law.
