Those who came to the meeting were really excited about getting these block watches up and running again. We're starting to see more vandalism and burglary in the area, and a well-run block watch program can deter a lot of that kind of activity.

The Morse Road SID was a bit different because the business community there was very involved. We can do the same thing along 161, but it's a way down the road.

I was serving as the area representative to the Forest Park Civic Association before I had even moved into my house. One of the people I had contacted in the area to ask some questions when I was buying my house told me about the opportunity to be the area representative and I decided to do it.

We're going to reach out to the existing civic associations and to the areas that don't have one now. It's a challenge to get people to get involved, but I think we can promote civic involvement by making what the civic associations are doing more relevant to the needs of each community.
