Jon was a hard-working and appreciative young man. He's a very bright guy, very intelligent. He never did anything other than good work.

One reason was we gave that many rookies that much of an opportunity, and two, we were very patient with the opportunity. The surprise was how this season has unfolded. We've had so many injuries and we've hung in there so well through the process.

We would absolutely love to take a shot at that and we'd be open to it. But one, we'd have to have a kid in the system that showed the aptitude to do it. And not many do, or not many self-evaluate good enough to know that that's what they should try.

We are maturing as a team and figuring out how to win close games, especially in the division. But it won't matter if we don't continue playing good.

We're always looking for left-handed pitching.

Even though Coors Field played fair this season, his numbers will hurt him. You have to blow everyone else away because of the [bias] against the field.

I was not really surprised, because Brian matured into the role. We're pleased with him, and we look forward to him pitching better.

Jose has been up and down the second half of the year as a pitcher, but he's a great guy on our club who can fill a lot of different roles. We think there's a lot more than can be done with him, too. We'd like to have him back. Obviously, he's going to have to work with us to do that, because there's only so far we'll go. He fits very well here.

Because I think there is the thought process out there that (a knuckleball) wouldn't work in our particular place. We necessarily haven't come across somebody that's been willing to roll the dice and give that a shot, so to speak.
