The people we have in charge of the (county's) Road and Bridge Department are doing an outstanding job. But I remember when commissioners used to go out and drive through their county roads, instead of waiting on a disgruntled resident to call in and complain. That hasn't happened in Precinct 2 in many, many years.

If we had a ceiling cap on appraisals, we would see those tax breaks for landowners and property owners. If I have to go to Austin to lobby for Midland County, I don't mind doing that.

Some of the guys actually slept in the clubhouse.

I will listen and if I can't provide an answer, I'll find one and get back (to them). There are several organizations that have been ignored and nobody told them why. That's one thing I believe in, if someone asks you a question, you need to know an answer or find one out. Voters want to hear back from their officials and want officials to give them the time of day.

I've handled and managed a balanced budget in agriculture for 40 years, and that's very difficult. You don't know (what) the elements (will be), like the drought we're having right now.

A friend once told me for every problem there are 10 solutions. It's just a matter of choosing the best one.

Most of us didn't know how to get to our homes.

Until tonight we have been in every game. I think we just need some breaks to go our way. When we find ourselves we're going to be a good team.
