FameRank: 6

"William "Billy" Cox" is an American bass guitar/bassist, best known for performing with Jimi Hendrix. Cox is the only surviving member of Jimi Hendrix's three main bands, including the original Experience lineup (which did not include Cox); he was in the Band of Gypsys and afterwards the Jimi_Hendrix#Cry_of_Love_Tour/Cry Of Love (a.k.a Jimi Hendrix New Experience) trio. Cox was also in the short-lived Hendrix band Gypsy Sun and Rainbows (there are other surviving members from this group) which played Woodstock, prior to the Band of Gypsys formation. Cox continues to perform dates with the Band of Gypsys Experience and the Experience Hendrix Tour.

We're a band of Gypsies, we come from everywhere.

There's enough business in this area for everyone. If you can help someone in their time of need, then why not.

(Jimi) was so into it -- if you listen closely you will see that I stayed on him, ... And when he started 'The Star Spangled Banner,' that impromptu thing, you hear the first four, five, or six notes; I'm in there with him. Then I said, 'Wait a minute, we didn't rehearse this, and it doesn't sound too good with me playing.' I backed away, and he continued and made a classic out of that.

[Talking for an hour with Clem Labine, it was obvious how much he loves baseball and its players, both past and present. He spoke about how he?d come out for batting practice just to watch Jackie Robinson hit, that] poor Newcombe was such a great pitcher and never got the recognition. ... the best out there.

I told her, whatever she needs, to just come and take it, ... We'll catch up sometime.

[The performance crystallized a new period of musical exploration for Hendrix.] In the earlier times, when he was with Noel (Redding) and Mitch (Mitchell), the songs were very simple, ... The simplicity of the 'Foxey Lady's' and the 'Purple Haze's' now went into some pretty intricate things, like 'Jam Back at the House' and then later the 'Freedom's', the 'Dolly Dagger's,' and 'In from the Storm.'

This is the Beethoven of that time.

I'd hate to see the area lose another business. We all have to work together.
