FameRank: 6

"Bernard Humphrey Hopkins, Jr." is an United States/American Boxing/boxer who currently fights as a light heavyweight but was also successful as a middleweight.

Hopkins held a piece of the world middleweight championship from 1994 until 2005 and made twenty successful defenses of the title. He won the International Boxing Federation title in 1994, then added the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association, and Ring Magazine/The Ring titles in 2001 and became the first man to hold all four major sanctioning bodies' titles when he won the World Boxing Organization title in 2004. The Ring ranked him #3 on their list of the "10 best middleweight title holders of the last 50 years."

After losing his title to Jermain Taylor in 2005 and failing to regain it in a rematch, Hopkins moved up to light heavyweight and won the Ring and International Boxing Organization titles from Antonio Tarver at 42 years of age, making two defenses of the Ring title before losing it to Joe Calzaghe. Three years later, Hopkins defeated Jean Pascal for the WBC title and broke George Foreman's record for oldest fighter to ever win a world championship at the age of 46. Hopkins later broke his own record by winning the IBF title from Tavoris Cloud in 2013 and again in 2014 when he won the WBA title from Beibut Shumenov, aged 48 and 49 respectively.

Understand that I'm at my best when it comes to proving a point, not only to show that I'm a better fighter and a better athlete at 40½ years old, but I'm at my best when I know I've got to beat the system again.

I felt a sense of urgency, ... I wasn't sure if I was winning or not.

Come Sunday morning, somebody's going to be asked questions (like) 'What happened?' ... And guess what? I don't want to be that person. So I'm going to do my best, by any means legally and clean, to let Howard Eastman know (what went wrong).

Everything rides on Dec. 3. This fight is important because that's where Bernard Hopkins will show that anyone who went through the minefield again with him is in trouble. I've beaten everyone who got into the ring with me a second time, and some of them I sent into retirement. I have to deal with the clouds and the storm. You think you got me down and I rise up.

This is my last fight of meaningful significance, ... This is my last fight, outside and in the ring, for what I've always stood up for.

That's the only thing that I say to myself that I need to work on.

He came to fight, ... He didn't come to run or look for a gift from the judges.

If I'm in a situation where Duane Ford is one of the judges, I have to pick it up.
