Arkansas Times
FameRank: 6

"Arkansas Times", a weekly alternative newspaper based in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a publication that has circulated for nearly 40 years, originally as a magazine. Its current format stems from reaction to the Arkansas Democrat buyout of assets from Gannett Company/Gannett's closure of the Arkansas Gazette in 1991, which had resulted in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Arkansas Times ' senior editor, Max Brantley, is among those former Gazette staffers who lost their jobs as a result of the merger. He was the first editor of the weekly edition in May 1992. The Gazette"s editorial cartoonist, George Fisher (cartoonist)/George Fisher, became the Times cartoonist until his death.

Billed as Arkansas's weekly newspaper of politics and culture (similarly styled as other regional publications like Memphis Flyer/The Memphis Flyer), Arkansas Times is noted for its opinion columnists and feature articles that take a decidedly Liberalism/liberal stance in comparison to the larger, daily Democrat-Gazette.

[LAWRENCE, Kansas (Reuters) -- At the new] Explore Evolution ... cousins in life's family tree.

At first, I wanted my man Derrick Johnson , ... I could look at it one way: 'Somebody's spot is about to get taken.' Then, thinking like a GM, it was, 'That's another explosive weapon on the outside.' You've seen the highlights of what he can do.

I think your theory is wonderful and possibly some of the majority members will be willing to support it.

There's a lot of history I care about, but right now I just want to move forward.

They have gotten lost and that's part of the pain their families and those of us that were their friends and who played with them carry with us, ... We still live with that. The public doesn't understand. We're still going through that.

We came out flat even though we were really hyped up, ... I guess we were shocked at their speed but we did come back to tie it. If we didn't come out and play the way we did it would have been a lot different.

Yeah, I like it. I have a good time on the road.

Nobody is going to have pity on you, ... If our guys are looking for pity, they're not going to get it from me. And I'm not going to get it from anybody. We just have to worry about ourselves and do the best we can.
