"Andi Gutmans" is an Israeli programmer and entrepreneur. He is a PHP developer and co-founder of Zend Technologies. A graduate of the Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Gutmans and fellow student Zeev Suraski created PHP 3 in 1997. In 1999 they wrote the Zend Engine, the core of PHP 4, and founded Zend Technologies, which has since overseen PHP advances, including the current PHP 5 release. The name Zend is a portmanteau of their forenames, Zeev and Andi.

I'm very happy with where PHP is now. My goal is to really make PHP a first class citizen and I think we're almost there.

There is a lot of work still to do, but after having already seen four applications build with the framework, it is clear that it already includes some very cool and useful modules.

We have to bring other players into the PHP ecosystem to bring their solutions into the PHP world to really create a larger community to bring us to the same level as a .NET.
