Every change was made to improve safety.

They also addressed enforcement of the dress code and how to better communicate a new policy. Daily attire checks were recommended during homeroom or perhaps periodically.

The decision was made not to pursue school uniforms but to further clarify our current policy. They felt that, from research, uniforms were not appropriate for our school district.

Sometimes there is a level of discomfort for faculty policing the dress code. It is fairly common for there to be discomfort in male teachers policing female students and vice versa.

There was an attempt to balance safety with individuality. The subcommittee feels confident that they have achieved that balance. There were some students at the meeting who had completely different styles and none were in violation of the proposal. The subcommittee recognizes fashion as an attempt to express individuality and there was no attempt to stifle that.
