Jake did a phenomenal job. Got ahead of hitters, made them hit his pitches and our defense played very well behind him ? typical early-season game where pitchers are dominant. We were very fortunate to get this win.

We work on that a lot, especially early on, being able to throw your breaking ball early in the count and get ahead of the hitters without them seeing his fastball first.

We're pretty much getting on his back. We told him going into the year that he's going to be our guy.

We played great defense. It's cold (out here), but our kids defended very well. We threw the ball to the right base and we caught the ball when we needed to. I'm excited about that.

They're good heady players. You can put them in a lot of different places. They responded well to varsity ball over the summer.

Greg is a move-in from Oregon who can pitch and play third base. Plus, he's a left-handed hitter.

He's a good defender on the mound. He made a couple of nice plays [against Larkin] and we're going to need to do that because we're not going to score a lot of runs.

I knew Kenny had a no-hitter, but his pitch count was getting up there. He was doing a great job, but it's early in the season and I didn't want to keep him in there too long.
