We kept trying to show throughout the film that it is always better to deal with evil if you are confronting evil rather than trying to pacify evil.
We use Ronald Reagan to tell a decent amount of the story in his own words. We wanted to use as much of Ronald Reagan's words to show who Ronald Reagan was, not have people put words in his mouth.
Reagan was a deeply spiritual guy. We did not get to see a lot of his spirituality, but it was there and it was the common thread, the fabric of who he was.
He went down there to work because there's no work up here except for minimum wage. He was trying to better himself. I heard he was doing good and got an apartment with a friend. He was on his way.
