Thomas Gardner
FameRank: 4

"Thomas Gardner" was an United States/American political figure and soldier.

Gardner was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was a descendant of Thomas Gardner of Roxbury, Boston/Roxbury. In 1755, he married Joanna Sparhawk, a member of one of Brighton's founding families.

Gardner, a political figure in Massachusetts on the eve of the American revolution/Revolution, was in the forefront of those urging resistance to the George III of the United Kingdom/King's dissolution of the General Court in 1774, following the Boston Tea Party. He was chosen to represent Cambridge, Massachusetts/Cambridge in the Middlesex County Convention, called to consider measures for public safety, as well as in the First and Second provincial Congresses. In May 1775 he was elected to the Revolutionary Council of Safety.

During the spring of 1775, he was commissioned a Colonel of a regiment he had organized largely at his own expense. Gardner's rapid rise to prominence ended when he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Bunker Hill, in June 1775. Lingering until July 3, 1775, Gardner was the second-highest ranking American officer killed at Bunker Hill. His funeral services were attended by General George Washington.

It was one of the best defenses that I've faced all year. They made it tough for me to get open. I turned it over three or four times, I've got to get better.

Our shots just weren't going in. But we were still able to hold them to 28 points and only be down eight at the half.

This is the same predicament we were in last year. We can't lose this many games in a row in league and expect to finish in the top half.

Right now we're still trying to search for that win. It doesn't get any easier. ... It's all in our control. We're the ones playing. All the coaching staff can do is continue to create strategies and game plans for us to go out and execute. We have to play the game.

The shots weren't going for us, so we made it a habit of getting to the basket and we got into the penalty early in the second half.

You had eight offensive rebounds. Dang.

We take a win any way we can get it right now. We're 5-4; we're trying to end up 7-4 before conference. Now we've got a quick turnaround to get ready for Oakland and Calvin Wooten, who's averaging 24.

In a big game you always want to perform well, and I think I was just a little over-anxious in the first half. I think that was evident in my shots going long or short, kind of wanting to get that first shot so bad to go in.

This is probably my least favorite arena to play in. We really can't blame it on the arena. The hoops are still 10 feet. You still have to put the ball in the hole. But I just never really liked it. That's just my own opinion.
