We want to show the grower how to cultivate a better quality and longer-lasting flower, because this is what the customers want.

Generally, this problem has been greatly reduced due to use of improved handling procedures from grower to consumer and better rose varieties developed by rose breeders. As seen with the reduction of bent neck over the last five to eight years, the results of this research programs are making a difference with consumers already. We hope to make even greater strides in the next two to three years.

Sometimes the differences we achieve relate to the flower quality as well as vase life.

Our research has shown that keeping flowers cold as they move from the field to the florist is critical.

They're helping to fund our research because they realize that there is a need to continue our efforts, and they hope to improve the satisfaction for those who buy their products.

What we have to do is increase the amount of water from the vase solution to the flower. If we can get these things right, we're going to do a lot better.

We're really working to get everybody from the grower to the consumer more aware of what it takes for these flowers to last.
