"Roy Luke Dias" is a former Sri Lankan cricket team/Sri Lankan cricketer of Negombo chetty Tamil origin. An elegant and stylish right-handed batsman he played 20 Test cricket/Test matches and became the first Sri Lankan to hit 1,000 Test runs. He played representative cricket for Sri Lanka from 1979 to 1987 and became the first Sri Lankan test cricketer of any of the three distinct Sri Lankan Tamil groups (Jaffna, eastern and Negombo) in the Island, and with his 214 runs in the 1979 ICC Trophy he was an integral part of Sri Lanka's tournament victory, as he played four matches with a batting average of 71.33, scoring 214 runs. The victory meant Sri Lanka qualified for the 1979 cricket World Cup, and, surprisingly, Sri Lanka won one match in that tournament as well. Dias made a patient 50 as Sri Lanka made their way to 238 for 5, before bowling Indian cricket team/India out for a meagre 191.

It's a big boost for Nepal to win a tournament of this nature. I got a call from the CAN president saying that the ICC and the ACC had called to congratulate them. Maybe now is the right time to promote our cricket. Funding is also necessary.

Hopefully, I think on Sri Lankan wickets we might have a slight chance of upsetting England. The guys are very keen. Initially bowling and fielding were our strong points, but the batting has got going. We have a balanced side. I will be happy if we can get to the last eight.

If we can get that then that will be so important to the development of our cricket because it will allow us to play outside the country, get lots of experience and mean we will need to improve our facilities and infrastructure at home.

We have come two weeks before the tournament because at this period of time it is very cold in Nepal. There is no point practicing there because conditions are different.

I remember once when my vice-captain came and asked me permission whether he could get married on a particular day because there was a match on. Even the parents of the cricketers come and tell me to look after their children. I am very happy working with them because I have a free hand.
