We've been hopeful another year class would emerge to help support the fishery, and now it appears we have one.

Nature ultimately determines what will come out. The conditions last year were evidently congenial for good survival.

It's the nature of the game. The perch is part of the ecosystem. If they are present in good numbers, they will show up in the diet of bigger fish.

One of the most encouraging signs is that, if the 2003 and 2005 year classes come through in good numbers, we could have as many as four strong year classes at once. That would give us a healthier, broader base of support for the population, something we haven't had for more than a decade.
