"Peter Hess" was a farmer and landowner. Peter Street and Hess Street (Hamilton, Ontario)/Hess Street in the city of Hamilton, Ontario are named after him as well as Caroline Street (Hamilton, Ontario)/Caroline Street after one of his daughters.

Hess was born 1779 in Upper Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He came to Canada with his father Michael Hess in 1789.

Early in the 19th century he acquired land in Hamilton, west of present day Bay Street (Hamilton)/Bay Street to Queen Street (Hamilton, Ontario)/Queen Street, stretching from Aberdeen Street (Hamilton, Ontario)/Aberdeen Street almost to the Bay.

He died 1855 in Barton township, Canada (present day Hamilton, Ontario) and is buried in Hamilton Cemetery.

Clearly there has been additional damage to the wreckage since it was discovered. It hasn't been protected very well. Ultimately, the Park Service is supposed to manage its resources so they've fallen down on the job.

We want to keep an open house and let visitors in, ... But maybe now we have to look at tighter restrictions.

The Juno was an unknown wreck. Fishing boats were getting caught on it, ripping up pieces of it, coins washing ashore. How can they argue that somehow it was protected in the state that it was in is just ridiculous.
