Foreign investors are playing a bigger and bigger role in our stock market and in helping the rand stay strong.

The SA equity market can be bought into correction. SA growth is still solid and earnings are growing strongly.

In the early days, people would wait on the sidewalk. I couldn't believe it. They'd wait 15 minutes in line and another 15 minutes to get their food and come back and do it again the next week. There aren't a lot of restaurants that can get people to do that.

One day, when the commodity boom ends and foreign investors head for the exits, that could change the picture for the rand.

Yet again we are pleasantly surprised by the extent of the jump in property shares in just quarter one. This is partly to do with better and better reported earnings and dividends.

I'm glad I made history. I'm proud of that. Hopefully we'll have more coming through the program.

Fortunately, most emerging markets are in relatively good shape economically.
