"Michael Lim Tan, DVM, PhD" is a Filipino people/Filipino medical anthropology/medical anthropologist, writer, and academic who is the current Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Prior to his appointment as, Tan was already well known for his work among Non-governmental organizations in the Philippines, and for his column Pinoy Kasi, which appears twice a week in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

On February 27, 2014, the University of the Philippines Board of Regents appointed Tan to serve as the next chancellor of the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he currently serves as Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP). The announcement stated that Tan will serve as Chancellor from March 1, 2014 to February 28, 2017

Tan has authored numerous books and articles, often focusing on: Traditional medicine/indigenous medical beliefs, Human sexuality/sex and sexuality, reproductive health/reproductive and sexual health (particularly HIV/HIV/AIDS), pharmaceuticals, and health policy issues.Citation

My opinion on him is the same for other alternative healers, including the religious who practice faith healing: It's all right to consult them, but it shouldn't be at the cost of disregarding biomedical interventions. There's always the risk that an ailment becomes more serious, perhaps even deadly, because of these delays.

It does reinforce the idea that there's nothing you can do. We are a poor country, but we do have resources. They just get swallowed up by corruption.
