FEMA urges anyone who sustained losses as a result of Hurricane Katrina to complete and mail in the completed SBA loan application as soon as possible. Even if the applicant feels they would not qualify for a loan, filling out the application is the first necessary step to being considered for other forms of disaster assistance or grants.

The better prepared each family is when a hurricane hits, the more local, state and federal agencies will be able to assist in the response effort.

All those same services will still be available by phone. People can call the FEMA help line, go to the agency's Web site or contact the U.S. Small Business Administration for help with their applications.

If you had damage, it is up to you to make sure your contact information is up to date. We want to make every effort to reach all the disaster victims and ensure that they receive the assistance they are entitled to for eligible losses, but without correct information, that makes our job difficult.

As we continue to provide funds for individuals and families, and for public assistance projects and SBA loans, we will see Alabama 's recovery steadily improving.
