We realized that it would be hard to get enough people. Given the fact that we have no idea when the union would call a strike, our first priority was that we have an adequate number of responsible adults to be able to administer the curriculum.

The district is in a situation now were after having closed several schools where we can't offer any more money than we have already. However, we do feel that employees have a right to express their opinion in front of the board.

I want to make it clear that really the hope is that we never have to use them, but we thought that because the union took an assertive measure during mediation ... we needed to do the same.

We're very saddened, something like this has not happened in the district for a long time.

It just wasn't cost effective for us to run school when half the population wasn't teaching and so many students were missing.

Those are categories where we have a lot students, so of course more funding would be a benefit for us.

This statement of keeping kids out is a powerful one, but kids end up paying the price because they lose a day of instruction and they'll still have to make those lessons up.
