Karla has an established record in the community in not only participating, but also delivering, and so she will probably have a bigger battle with confusion over her opponent's name than over her opponent's record. Any reasonable person would be worried about the name confusion.
The immigration bill has to be perceived as the bashing bill of the year. The intensity of that legislation left little room to target anyone else.
My guess is the lateness of the session will be used as an excuse to just not stand up for it.
The strongest connection [between the immigration bill and gay rights] is that the immigrant community, as new Americans, are people we will work with in the future, and it's important to them now to see a demonstration of support from the gay community.
