It was a great campaign. Both sides raised issues and I was able to talk about the vision I have for the town and the direction I'd like to see all of us move in. I think the message resonated with the voters.

The young ones have a yen for musical variety, plus some of the band's appeal can be traced to those old '30s and '40s movies appearing on late night and cable TV. A lot of kids seeing the band are enthralled by what they hear. We've got some hot players on the stand who can really perform. That really appeals to them.

Everyone has been wonderful. The church sent flowers today and asked if the torches would be OK [Friday] night. We told them we didn't think they would upset anyone.

I don't think either side had any interest in going to arbitration. We reached out and they (Jays) reached out and it all came together pretty quickly. Ted's just ready to go.
