As a professional football player, I have quite a bit of time in the off-season to pursue other goals, ... I would drive by this little airport every day on the way to work and see these planes coming in and landing. I looked at it and said to myself, 'Hey, I think I can do that.'

I'm finally starting to come along. I'm glad about that. Still trying to work hard and learn the little things, you know? You still can always get better at something.

The 1994 season at Penn State was just a fabulous experience, ... We knew we had outstanding talent, but we also had a bunch of guys who were very focused, knew what they wanted and understood what it would take to get the job done and we went out and did it against some outstanding teams. When you see a bunch of young men coming together like that for a common goal, it is very satisfying.

I read The Civil War Infantryman , which talked about making 20-mile marches in the dead heat of summer in wool uniforms, then sitting down to eat salt pork. I'm sleeping in air-conditioned hotels, with good food every day and, like, a made-to-order omelet station. Who am I kidding about how difficult this is?
