Obviously, we want to ensure that people who have evacuated are still having their health care needs met, and the best way to do that is for them to get on insurance in the state where they are residing or where they intend to reside.

There were transportation systems in place to take people out of New Orleans, which was the preferred solution.

There is a situation at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette that public health is monitoring. Three students have contracted meningitis and one has died from a blood infection that has the same bacteria as meningitis. Our office is working with the university to address the situation.
