"Katherine "Kathy" Sheehan" is the current Mayor of Albany, New York. Prior to being elected mayor, Sheehan was city treasurer. On September 10, 2013, she defeated Corey Ellis in the Democratic primary for List of mayors of Albany, New York/mayor of Albany. She later won the general election becoming the first female mayor and first new mayor of Albany in 20 years after Gerald Jennings decided to retire after being Albany's mayor for 20 years.
