FameRank: 6

"Joshua Patrick Beckett" is an American retired professional baseball pitcher. A three-time Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star, he played for the Miami Marlins/Florida Marlins, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.

After a stellar high school career, where he was regarded as one of the top prospects in the country, he was drafted by the Marlins with the second pick in the 1999 MLB Draft. He won the 2003 World Series with the Marlins and the 2007 World Series with the Red Sox, and received the League Championship Series Most Valuable Player Award/2007 American League Championship Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and the World Series Most Valuable Player Award/2003 World Series MVP award. He was traded from the Marlins to the Red Sox in 2006 and from the Red Sox to the Dodgers in 2012, both as part of multi-player transactions.

Beckett recovered from a serious injury that caused him to miss most of the 2013 season and pitched a no hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 25, 2014 for the Dodgers, becoming the List of Los Angeles Dodgers no-hitters/19th man to do so in Dodgers history. However, his season was again cut short due to an injury and he announced his retirement on October 7, 2014.

The last pitch I threw to Michael Young, that was about all I had left. I wanted them to call that a strike so bad.

Coming from Florida, opening day is sometimes the only day you have like that.

I think I've always been prepared for this. I know what I have to do. You can't make rocket science out of it. You just have to execute pitches. Don't let exterior distractions in. It just takes away from what you're trying to do.

It's not like I wanted to fight. I just wanted to make the point that you look like a jackass when you do that and you're out.

That's huge. I mean this guy hits a double there, then we are down 4-0 instead of 1-0.

If I don't make it to the big leagues, nobody's going to remember I threw a no-hitter in Double-A.

It was fine. I threw 48 pitches and that was about it. The numbers could have been better, but we'll save all the good breaks for the season.

We won the series - that's the main thing. It would have been nice to sweep. It's just one of those deals. You can't give up that many runs to that good of a pitcher.

I've got a Minor League game on Friday. I just need to keep the intensity and stay focused and get out there and get my work in.
