There is a difference between cultures - of course there is - but it is much less obvious with younger generations and much less important when people are bilingual or educated. The 'them and us' stuff no longer applies. It is having not just awareness about different cultures but the way we speak in English.

The sort of people you meet in a Japanese company will be the best English speakers with a couple of degrees and possibly a greater knowledge of the English language than yourself.

I have never had a Japanese person bow to me, they stick their hand out and shake my hand.
