"John Hancock " was a merchant, smuggler, statesman, and prominent Patriot (American Revolution)/Patriot of the American Revolution. He served as President of the Continental Congress/president of the Second Continental Congress and was the List of Governors of Massachusetts/first and third Governor of Massachusetts/Governor of the Massachusetts/Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is remembered for his large and stylish signature on the United States Declaration of Independence, drawn so that King George III would be able to read the Hancock name; so much so that the term "John Hancock" has become, in the United States, a synonym for a signature.
